Harriet Wichtowski BA Hons, MSc Counselling Psychology 07932 050 033 click here to email me Counselling Psychology Counselling involves talking and thinking about our lives with a trained professional in a supportive and confidential setting. Counselling is not advice-giving and offers no magical solutions, but a good counsellor or therapist will listen to you attentively, make you feel safe and valued, help you to look at your life in new and creative ways and will always hold your best interest at heart. While some counsellors and therapists work within specific frameworks, such as cognitive-behavioural or psychodynamic, others incorporate aspects and 'tools' from a range of therapeutic models to offer an integrative approach. Whatever the person's circumstances, I take into account the 'whole person' as I believe strongly in the holistic idea of health - that our bodies, minds, emotions and spirits are inter-related and inter-dependent. My background Before training as a Counselling Psychologist at City University in London, I worked for many years in the voluntary, public and private sectors in this country and overseas. I also had several experiences of counselling myself, some better than others, which influenced my decision to train as a therapist. As a Counselling Psychologist, I've worked in various settings including a GP practice, a women's centre and several youth projects, and am an active member of the British Psychological Society. I work from the view that each of us is the expert on our own life, and that my role as a Counselling Psychologist is to be alongside each of my clients as they explore past, present or future aspects of their life journeys. I charge on a sliding scale of £30 - £60 per session, according to income. |
