Services for Diagnostics Radiology at X-Ray York

X-ray Toronto offers diagnostic imaging services and screening exams for a wide range of health issues. X-rays are the oldest and most commonly used form of medical imaging. They allow physicians to view inside of a patient’s body, often revealing diseases and injuries in the early stages where the chance for recovery is increased.

Medicolegal Studies and Immigration Assessments

At the Toronto Centre for Medical Imaging we are licensed to perform chest, abdominal and lumbosacral X-rays as part of your Immigration Medical Examination. We also provide X-ray Toronto to assess the status of pregnancy.

The amount of radiation that you are exposed to during X-rays is small and not harmful. However, it is important to let us know if you are pregnant or may become pregnant before the test is performed as there are special precautions that need to be taken.

Depending on the type of X-ray that your doctor orders you will be asked to get undressed and put on a gown, sit or lie down for the scan. The medical radiation technologist will help you find a comfortable position that ensures the best diagnostic imaging quality.

Your X-ray film will be interpreted by a trained doctor and then discussed with you directly. Your doctor can then make a recommendation for further treatment or follow-up.

Bone Densitometry (DXA)

We offer bone densitometry, a procedure that uses a small dose of ionizing radiation to detect osteoporosis and other conditions that cause bones to break easily. The images will be viewed by an experienced radiologist, who will interpret the results and provide a report for your referring doctor.

Chest and Abdominal X-rays

The most common X-rays we perform are chest and abdominal X-rays. These tests allow your doctor to see the inside of your chest, stomach, pelvis and lungs. They are commonly ordered to diagnose lung disease or to evaluate the extent of a fracture in your hip or femur.

Mammography

A mammogram is a low-dose X-ray examination of the breasts, to detect abnormalities and cancer. It is also used to screen women who are experiencing symptoms such as lumps, pain or nipple discharge.

Sonohysterography

We also perform sonohysterograms, which are a clinically valuable ultrasound examination of the uterus and lining. This test is the easiest way to view your fallopian tubes.

Please notify the receptionist if you are pregnant or suspect you may be in the first trimester. If you are pregnant, we will not proceed with the X-ray. It is very important that you not take X-rays in the first trimester of your pregnancy as there is an increased risk of congenital abnormalities (existing from birth) in a baby born after exposure to high levels of x-ray radiation during this time.

You should avoid eating or drinking anything for a few hours before your X-ray exam. It is also important to remove any metal jewelry such as rings or belly button chains from the area being scanned before your X-ray exam.
